Advancing reproductive health rights through providing access to family planning

Since 2019, in partnership with PS Kenya, HealthRight has been implementing a ($1.25million) five-year DFID Delivering Sustainable and Equitable Increases in Family Planning (DESIP) project focused on increasing equitable access to modern contraceptives in low contraceptive prevalence rate (CPR) counties of West Pokot and Elgeyo Marakwet.

Key achievements include:

  • Identification and capacity building of over 100 CBDs towards increasing community access and uptake of modern contraceptives.
  • Built health systems capacity through training 400 healthcare workers on long-acting contraceptive methods.
  • Strengthened the Counties’ health information system and increased the use of data for decision-making through supervision and mentoring of 505 MOH/CHMT staff.
  • Improved family planning service utilization among people with disability from 0.4% to 46%.
  • Strengthened 60 private hospitals and clinics to offer accessible and quality family planning services.
