Over 40% of students in Kenya’s public universities experience some form of violence, with more than 68% of these cases affecting females. It is on this background that HealthRight Kenya is running the Raising the Voices of Change Campaign, which aligns with the organisation’s 20th anniversary. The campaign will culminate in the 20th Anniversary celebrations on Thursday, 9th October at the Eka Hotel, Nairobi.
The Campaign seeks to initiate the long-term impact in normalising mental health conversations and safe space advocacy in Higher Education Institutions. It brings together Student Advocates of Mental Health, SGBV, and Leadership from select institutions of higher learning.
Why Now?
University students also face rising challenges in mental health & SGBV. Stigma, lack of safe spaces, and limited access to services escalate the situation to unprecedented levels. This campaign creates platforms for storytelling, advocacy, and solutions, which aligns with HealthRight@20 milestone & mental health conference. It seeks to build momentum for policy change and sustained dialogue with government bodies.
What does the campaign do?
- Creates platforms for storytelling, advocacy, and peer-led solutions.
