Since 2005, HealthRight Kenya (HRK) has been working with local governments and communities in Kenya’s remote and impoverished regions to address critical issues in four priority program areas, as well as in high-burden communicable diseases like malaria and TB.

As a key implementing partner and lead on several U.S. government-supported programs, HRK has achieved and sustained significant improvements in healthcare access and outcomes for over 4 million Kenyans across 11 counties, including Nairobi, Bungoma, Trans Nzoia, Elgeyo Marakwet, West Pokot, Kilifi, Narok, and Semi-Arid Lands counties.

HealthRight Kenya has been committed to strengthening health systems for mothers and babies since our early work in addressing a neglected HIV epidemic in West Pokot and Turkana District in 2005. In recent years, we have achieved success in advancing Respectful Maternity Care policy and practice under USAID’s Partnership for Maternal and Neonatal Health-Plus (PMNH+) project in Elgeyo Marakwet County and USAID Afya Jijini Project in Nairobi’s informal settlements.

We have demonstrated our ability to forge effective relationships at the county and community levels, which has enabled us to advocate for policy changes that improve health equity and build sustainable local capacity to respond to emerging health challenges.

Our continued impact and ability to support local solutions that work stem from several factors, including our sustained presence in the North Rift Valley and ASAL regions, our commitment to addressing health system inequities, our ability to provide integrated technical and capacity building support across several technical areas, and our productive collaboration with a wide range of international NGOs and local partners.

Incorporated in Kenya as a non-governmental organization in 2005 under Kenya state law as Doctors of the World, HealthRight Kenya changed its name to its current form in 2018. HRK is a fully registered non-governmental organization governed by the Board of Directors and has a framework agreement with HealthRight International.
