Male And Female Engagement Forum at Olchorro Chiefs Camp, Narok

Many African communities are patriarchal in social and cultural structures. In the ever-evolving landscape of societal norms and expectations, the call for fostering gender equality and dismantling traditional patriarchal structures has become increasingly imperative to see change in Access to Reproductive and Maternal Health Services.

In this recognition and efforts to influence health outcomes, HealthRight Kenya Board of Directors and the management team led by the Country Director Peter Ofware in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the County Government of Narok hosted the cultural male engagement forum – ”Olpul” (goat easting session) and the Mother-daughter forum as they discussed health gender and environmental concerns.

The team also held health facility interactions with MCH and Maternity clients, Staff and Community-Based Distributors (CBDs). These structured engagement forums have emerged as a powerful strategy for cultivating meaningful dialogue and catalyzing positive change.

This is in line with the ongoing New Partners Initiative (NPI) Expand Project, which is an integrated health, gender and environment project funded by USAID – US Agency for International Development through Palladium: Make It Possible. More than 1,542 locals have been reached through this project with more than 4,626 being indirect beneficiaries.
